Hello JUNE!

Welcome to June at the WBS library...it's a busy time, but a very EXCITING time!

Our 8th annual READ TO FEED campaign through Heifer International has come to a close...official deadline was yesterday, but wouldn't you know it, more money trickled in today...it's all GOOD!

We surpassed our ONLINE SCHOOL GOAL of $7,000...we raised $7,509...more than enough to purchase an ARK of livestock, which will feed many hungry children around the world, including the USA!

I'm in the process of counting all the CASH & CHECK donations! 

Our DREAM GOAL is to have raised enough money to buy 2 ARKS! Will the cash/checks total the $2,500 we need? We'll soon find out at the READ TO FEED CELEBRATION! 

The 86 students who participated on our WBS team did a LOT of reading during this read-a-thon...a grand total of 1,270 books!!! Absolutely amazing! I'm so proud of my student Read to Feeders...they are life-savers! 

Given the opportunity, Kids can show compassion and change the world! BRAVO!

Welcome MAY!

Hello everyone! We say goodbye to April...poetry month.


It's Read to Feed time in the library! WE LAUNCHED OUR 8TH ANNUAL READ TO FEED CAMPAIGN IN APRIL, and it continues through May. Read to Feed is a service learning read-a-thon to raise money through Heifer International to feed hungry children of the world. Last year, 90 students raised $11, 277 for this great cause! Heifer's mission is to end hunger and poverty by providing struggling families with livestock and education. Farm animals are the gift that keep on giving!

So far, 60 students have signed up and are on West Bath School's Read to Feed team! Lots of books are being read and sponsors are being recruited to support us in this important work.

A generous donor contacted Heifer International and has pledged to MATCH every dollar we raise up to $50,000...this is an exciting challenge...one we have taken on!
To date, we have raised $3,485...who knows what the future holds, but we have one more month the read and raise!

One student said, "Mrs. D, let's make history!" I think that's a great slogan for our campaign. Making history would be fun, but it's all about MAKING A DIFFERENCE, so whatever we earn, it will be life changing!

April...finally!

Hello! Welcome, April!

The Battle of the Books competition went off without a hitch...what a wonderful evening filled with parents watching their kiddos compete in an academic activity about BOOKS! Our West Bath students have enjoyed this year-long program, reading from a list of 40 books in preparation for the big event...the Battle of the Books competition, going head to head with area schools!

14 students represented West Bath School...there was a total of 120 students competing! We didn't win this year, but we had a great time reading, discussing, practicing and competing! Congratulations for a job well done to our 4th and 5th graders who participated...BRAVO!




April is POETRY MONTH! 
West Bath School has quite an awesome collection of poetry, so come on in and check it out!

March into March!

Hello! March is Women's History month. You're invited to come and check out our new book display featuring famous women who made a big difference in the world.

Battle of the Books Club: We have had a couple of after school book club meetings, and the excitement for the district competition is mounting! We have 3 teams reading and practicing for the big meet on March 31st. Students are enjoying the various learning activities regarding titles & authors, genre and comprehension Q&A. Mock battle practice went very well last week...our 3 teams tied or scored 1 point between them. Five more practices until the competition...go West Bath School!

Maine Chickadee book program: Students in grades K-3 are enjoying the chickadee books from this year's list...these books are always a big hit! We have read 6 of the 10 so far and looking forward to voting for our favorite at the end of March. Which book will win the 2016 Chickadee award? Time will tell...only 4 more books to go!

February is Here!

Battle of the Books Club has begun!

We are happy to announce that 14 students from 4th and 5th grade have joined our school's Maine Students Book Award Book club! Meetings are on Monday's from 3:00-4:30. I, along with Mrs. Franklin and Ms. Barnes are the co-facilitators again this year. We had a great time reading, sharing, discussing and practicing for the District wide Book Competition these last several years, and we are looking forward to this year's books and fun in the club. We placed 1st and 3rd last year...we'll see what this year brings! 

The Battle Competition Will be held on:

March 31st from 6:30pm-7:30pm @ Bath Middle School.

Mark your calendars so you can come and root us on...it's quite an EXCITING evening of fun with books! Hope to see you there!

January is Here!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy December!

We are gearing up for the Holidays...come on in and check out our Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza picture books...something for everyone!

MSBA Update: We now have 6 students who have read 6 Maine Student Book Award Books qualifying them to join the Battle of the Books Club...YAY! Other students having been checking these books out and are nearing 6 the 6 books needed. We have 4 staff members who have read at least 6 books. A shout out to Ms. Barnes who has already read all 35 books...BRAVO!

The K-3 students have read 3 of the 10 Maine Chickadee Program books: A Boy and a Jaguar, Hana Hashimoto,Sixth Violin, and Ivan, the Shopping Mall Gorilla. These 3 books are all such good stories...it will be hard to vote for our favorite of all 10 come March!
