October Library News
In October, the Library crossed paths with the Music room and oh what fun! While I read the book Dinosaur Pet to Mrs. Raedel's 1st grade, our music teacher, Mrs. Palmer, taught hand drumming to Mrs. Sawyer's 2nd grade. After reading the book, I taught the class to sing along to the song rendition of the book. The Dinosaur Pet was written by Marc Sedaka, Neil Sadaka's son...yes, Neil Sadaka the famous singer. The father and son duo collaborated and put out this fabulous book which integrates literature and music to the tune of Neil Sadaka's song 'Calendar Girl'...genius! The book comes with a music CD on which Neil sings, "I love, I love my little Dinosaur Pet, each and every day of the year!". Next, we swapped groups and repeated the plan. Then we brought both groups together in the music room where Mrs. Palmer and I had them practice singing and hand drumming the Dinosaur Pet song. Finally, we performed the song for the whole school at a school-wide crew meeting on October 30th. What a great time it was for all!
