Welcome February!

Happy February...well, I guess if you like LOTS of snow and COLD weather, you're happy!

February is Black History month. Come on in and peruse our new displays where you'll find the likes of Harriet Tubman, Marian Anderson, Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. to name a few.

We also have fiction books to choose from that center around civil rights/slavery such as:
Elijah of Buxton, a story about an 11 year old boy who is the first child born into freedom in Buxton, Canada, a settlement of runaway slaves. He's best known as the boy who made a memorable impression on Frederick Douglass.  Other chapter books: Day of Tears and A Friendship.

Some picture books on this topic are: Almost to Freedom, Words Set Me Free, Minty, Moses, Follow The Drinking Gourd, Henry's Freedom Box, Wilma Unlimited and I Have A Dream.

The Battle of the Books Club
We are happy to announce that WBS has 20 students signed up...that's 4 teams! Our informational meeting was this week! We will hold 7 more practice meetings after school on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00pm. We are enjoying the many interesting books (40 of them) that are on the Maine Student Book Award list. WBS is looking forward to defending it's first place title at this year's RSU1 Battle of the Books competition, which will be held at Phippsburg Elementary School on April 2nd at 6:30pm.

Hope to see you there!
Mrs. D from the Library
